What is Vault?

Vault is a Fantasy & Cyberpunk hybrid like you’ve never seen full of FAST, GRITTY ACTION!

Vault is our lovingly crafted and rigorously tested tabletop roleplaying game set in a future Earth ravaged by mystical wars and rampant corporate greed. We have created a new system that is quick to learn, quicker to play, heavy with character choices, and downright fun for the whole table. In Vault, players start as rookie mercenaries (Mercs) looking to scrape by with the cash in their pockets. Through missions for Patrons — or other daring exploits — you grow your characters and your team into legends of the underground and get the opportunity to shape the world.

Vault's system is designed to combine relatable near-future cyberpunk elements with the mysterious and heroic nature of fantasy. This system favors teams of 3-5 players engaging with stories of urban fantasy, crime, horror, detective dramas, and even the convergence of technology and ethics. One night you might be working out the details of a bullet train heist, and the next, hunting down a cult dedicated to cosmic horrors. Players will find fun and flavorful ways to invest in their characters and improve them often. Our system also focuses on giving players meaningful choices both in and out of combat. World Shapers (our term for GM or Storyteller) will have tools to keep the focus on their story, run gritty fast-paced fights, and present challenges that force players to think on their feet. The World Shaper Guide contained in every version of our Rulebook will have all the information to craft missions, campaigns, and stories for your players.

We have worked to pack this game with meaningful choices that allow you to fully realize your playstyle. Whether you want to be the toughest cyborg on the street or a 3-foot tall winged sniper who can also throw fireballs, Vault provides the mechanics and the storytelling space to give you that experience! While out of game choices may take some time to think through, in-game decisions can be made quickly and will be the difference between life and death. The choice between potent magical mastery and a fevered search for the newest tech is a meaningful one. Some characters will even choose to forgo magic and machinery in favor of raw natural talent and hard-earned experience. Whatever route you take, you will find ways to make that character your own.

Rules & Mechanics Highlights:

An example of Vault's Boss Board for climactic fights against daunting enemies

Pick a zone and make your attack against it! Our Unique Boss enemies allow for epic fights and dynamic player choices rather than just slogging through a pile of hit points. Destroying each area will either remove attacks or abilities from the Boss. But even the best Boss fights are only made epic by the team fighting against them. Let's look at character creation next!

Character Creation will be full of choices and customizations with many thousands of options to dig into, so players can play just what they are looking for. Team Rex Games (TRG) has also been diligent to make character creation and advancement quick and easy with plenty of hard choices along the way.

Testimonial 02, from D: "The layout is easy to consume and very accessible to new players."

Species of Vault

The 6 Species of Vault: Faeborn, Dwarves, Changelings, Elves, Humans, and EOS

The world of Vault is full of diverse groups of people. Not only are there many unique and different cultures, but, with the arrival of the cataclysm that was the Faetide, many peoples were displaced and now rub shoulders with each other. As time moves on, these groups develop new and fascinating customs, rituals, and traditions. And that just goes for Humanity.

Elves, Dwarves, Changelings, Faeborn, and the Engineered Organic Soldiers (EOS) all have brought their own spins to Earth's cultures, histories, and knowledge. Each their own species, characters will have unique abilities and bonuses from this choice.

Character Styles

The 4 Styles of Vault

In Vault there are 4 Styles that help define your character's role. Wield the powers of magic with Mystic, be a master of deadly skills as a Slayer, control the fight and support your team as a Strategist, or clash with foes using your rage as a Titan.

Classes of Vault

The 16 Classes of Vault

Vault uses a dual-class system. This means you pick 2 classes at character creation, and some of these mixes are wild! Going deep on doing one thing really well or finding the perfect balance to always be useful is your choice. With 16 specialized class options, there is a lot to choose from.

Oh, I can comment here as well as kickstarter.  I'm having an issue getting the download to work; it just tells me an invalid end of file with 7-zip and doesn't extract all data, while Windows doesn't recognize it as valid.  Help!

Edit:  Nevermind, it finally worked.  So as an FYI, if folks have the same issue, the way that I resolved it was to click download not starting, and to enable alternate download.

Is there a central spot where we can send in typos and such for an errata pass?

The most "serious" is on page 260, where the paragraph on the Arcanist Skill in the World Shaper section just STOPS mid-sentence and is never resumed again. The rest seem to just be minor typos.

Also, the "Answer Accuracy Chart" seems weird in that the results get gradually better with higher rolls, until one reaches 17-21 and "nothing about this answer is true" appears. While the two lower rungs at least hat the possibility of some of it being truthful. So, rolling a higher number kind of penalizes the team/character.

Thanks for asking! We'd love any issues, typos, etc. you find be sent to our email: richard@teamrexgames.com That will let us handle them and keep the organized.

As for the note yes that paragraph is cut off, thanks for the find!

Finally, with the answers chart, it should be an opportunity for the World Shaper to communicate things the players should look into or rule out. The player will know what their result on the chart is, so they will also know that the info is "false" info.

But also huge thanks again for helping us find these errors before our print run. We'll be doing a general update before next week with anything folks find.
